The Devil’s Magus – A Review
Dark Magic. Forbidden Rights. A battle for the soul of the world.
If the occult and the supernatural are your thing, then The Devil’s Magus by Marius Creed is the book for you. Creed starts off with a foreward explaining how this book came to be and also included a reading list for when you’re ready to explore further.
There’s a lot to love about this book, and although it’s listed on Amazon as a horror, that’s more of a technicality rather than being about how this book makes you feel. I was never truly concerned about the outcome. This is a book where the good guys really are good, and the bad guys are evil. Creed does a fantastic job of portraying the, often complex, relationships between the characters.
Personally, I found there were a few too many cliches at play, and some of the characters came across as caricatures rather than fully-rounded people with pasts and lives. There is also some head-hopping between characters, which was a little confusing at times. (I should add that most writers have been guilty of this at some point in time!)
Over all, this was a fun, quick read. If you like your occult horror on the lighter side, then this is definitely a book for you!
